The short answer

Is GoHighLevel HIPAA compliant?

Only after you buy the package, sign the BAA and switch on each sub-account.

Standard account

Not compliant
  • No BAA
  • No enforced MFA
  • Don’t store patient data

With the HIPAA package

Eligible
  • BAA signed with HighLevel
  • Encryption, audit logs, MFA
  • Only sub-accounts you switch on

Your business

Still your job
  • Policies and staff training
  • Risk assessment
  • Who can see what

What you get

What the GoHighLevel HIPAA package includes

From HighLevel’s HIPAA guide. It changes how data is protected, not which features you have.

Protections

  • Encryption of ePHI (AES-256, Google-managed keys)
  • Business Associate Agreement (BAA)
  • Audit logging
  • MFA enforcement
  • Mobile app inherits encryption and MFA

Data it covers

  • Contacts, notes and custom fields
  • SMS/MMS and voice recordings
  • Email bodies and attachments
  • Form and survey submissions
  • Calendars and invoices

HighLevel’s guide doesn’t list which third-party integrations (ad platforms, Zapier, outside AI tools) the BAA covers. Ask support in writing before you send patient data through one.

Setup

How to turn on HIPAA in GoHighLevel

Four steps. The last one is the one most guides skip.

  1. Step 1

    Buy the package

Agency view → Settings → Compliance → “Buy HIPAA Package at $297 per Month”, tick the acknowledgement, then pay.

  2. Step 2

    Sign the BAA

Settings → Compliance → BAA → View Document. Edit the signer details if needed, then sign and download a copy.

  3. Step 3

    Switch on each sub-account

Sub-Accounts → the sub-account → Advanced Settings → HIPAA toggle ON. It can’t be switched off again.

  4. Step 4

    Lock down users

Check user permissions and MFA for everyone with access before any patient data arrives.

Before you buy

Six things to check before you pay $297

Because the add-on can’t be undone, decide before you click.

Permanent

You can’t cancel it

The package “cannot be canceled, refunded, removed, or downgraded once enabled”. Budget for it for as long as you keep the agency account.

Do you need it?

Only for protected health information

Names and emails for a newsletter usually aren’t PHI. Symptoms, treatments and appointment reasons in forms or messages usually are. Ask a compliance adviser.

Agencies

It covers your whole agency

One fee for every sub-account, so it’s cheaper per clinic as you add healthcare clients. You choose which sub-accounts get switched on.

Transfers

It limits moving accounts

A HIPAA sub-account can only move to another agency that is also HIPAA compliant. Plan client hand-overs early.

Your side

Your own compliance still counts

Staff training, access rules, a risk assessment and a BAA with each client are your responsibility, not HighLevel’s.

Integrations

Check every connected tool

HighLevel’s guide doesn’t say which outside integrations the BAA covers. Get it in writing before patient data flows to ad platforms, Zapier or outside AI tools.

GoHighLevel HIPAA questions from Reddit, answered

These threads rank on Google for HIPAA searches. We answer each question with HighLevel’s own documentation.

  • “Is GoHighLevel HIPAA compliant?”

The r/gohighlevel “HIPAA compliance” thread ranks #1 on Google for “gohighlevel hipaa compliance” and “is gohighlevel hipaa compliant”.

Fix Not by default. Buy the $297/month package, sign the BAA, then switch on HIPAA in each sub-account that holds patient data.

  • “How do agencies handle healthcare clients?”

A thread asking agencies who work with healthcare providers how they set things up.

Fix One agency-level fee covers all your sub-accounts. Switch HIPAA on only for clinics that store PHI, and sign a BAA with each healthcare client yourself.

  • “Is GHL any good for medical clinics?”

Clinics weigh GoHighLevel for booking, reminders and reviews.

Fix Booking, reminders, missed-call text-back and review requests all work in HIPAA sub-accounts; the add-on changes protection, not features. Budget $297 on top of the plan.

  • “What are the hidden costs?”

A pricing thread that also ranks for “gohighlevel hipaa cost”.

Fix HIPAA is the biggest flat add-on: on Starter it costs 3× the plan itself. Usage (texts, calls, AI) is extra too.

  • “Is it really compliant, or just marketing?”

r/CRMSoftware users ask whether the platform can be trusted with health data.

Should you buy GoHighLevel’s HIPAA add-on?

GoHighLevel HIPAA pricing FAQ

How much does GoHighLevel HIPAA cost?
$297 per month, on top of your HighLevel plan. It’s billed once at the agency level, not per sub-account.
Is GoHighLevel HIPAA compliant?
Not by default. HighLevel says accounts “are NOT HIPAA compliant by default”. You need the $297/month HIPAA package, a signed BAA, and HIPAA switched on in each sub-account that handles health data.
Does GoHighLevel sign a BAA?
Yes. A Business Associate Agreement comes with the HIPAA package and is signed inside HighLevel (Settings → Compliance → BAA).
Is HIPAA included in any GoHighLevel plan?
No. It’s a paid add-on on every plan: Starter, Unlimited and Agency Pro, monthly or annual.
Is the HIPAA add-on charged per sub-account?
No. One $297/month fee covers the agency. Each sub-account still has to be switched on separately in its Advanced Settings.
Can I cancel the GoHighLevel HIPAA add-on?
No. HighLevel says it cannot be canceled, refunded, removed or downgraded once enabled, and a sub-account’s HIPAA toggle can’t be turned off.
Is there an annual price for HIPAA?
HighLevel’s pricing page and HIPAA guide only show $297 per month. Some reviews quote $2,970 a year; we couldn’t verify that on HighLevel’s own pages.
What data does HIPAA mode protect?
Contacts, notes and custom fields; SMS/MMS and call recordings; email bodies and attachments; form and survey submissions; calendars and invoices.
Does buying HIPAA make my business compliant?
No. It makes the platform eligible to hold protected health information under a BAA. Your own policies, staff training, access control and risk assessment are still your responsibility.
Can I move a HIPAA sub-account to another agency?
Only to an agency that is also HIPAA compliant.
Do dentists, med spas and clinics need the HIPAA add-on?
If they are covered entities (or you act for one) and the account will hold protected health information, yes. If the account only stores names and emails for marketing, get advice before deciding: health details in forms or messages usually change the answer.
