Decide

HighLevel courses or a course-first platform?

Choose HighLevel courses when

  • Courses support a service business (coaching, agency, clinic)
  • You want CRM, texting, booking and funnels in the same account
  • Agencies deliver courses or portals for many clients
  • You want course events to trigger sales follow-up

Consider a course-first platform when

  • Courses and community are your entire business
  • You want the most polished student experience with little setup
  • Your community lives on a dedicated platform like Skool
  • You don’t need a CRM or texting

For the wider platform decision, see GoHighLevel comparisons.

What users ask

Course and community questions from Reddit, answered

  • “Thoughts on running an online community in GHL?”

The #1 result for “gohighlevel community”.

Fix It works well when the community supports a business you already run in HighLevel, with paid groups, levels and course unlocks. Pure community businesses often compare it with Skool first.

  • “Can I build custom client portals?”

Agencies want a branded place for clients.

Expert take

When we use HighLevel courses for clients

GoHighLevel courses and communities FAQ

Can GoHighLevel host online courses?
Yes. Build courses from modules and lessons with videos (up to 5 GB each), PDFs, quizzes and assignments, sell access free, one-time or by subscription, and deliver them through the Client Portal.
Are courses and communities included in every plan?
Yes. HighLevel’s pricing page lists Courses and Communities among the core features included from the Starter plan up. Only the branded Client Portal app is a paid add-on.
Is there a limit on courses or students?
HighLevel’s help articles don’t publish a student or course limit. The documented limit is file size: course videos up to 5 GB.
How do I sell membership access with Stripe?
Connect Stripe (or another provider), create an offer with a one-time or recurring price, and sell it through the offer checkout, a funnel order form or a payment link. Access is granted when the payment succeeds.
Can I drip course lessons over several weeks?
Yes. Drip settings release lessons on a schedule, and learners can be notified when new content unlocks. In communities, “time unlock” opens a course a set number of days after each member joins.
Does GoHighLevel issue course certificates?
Yes. Certificates can go out automatically on course completion (one certificate per course), downloadable as PDF, PNG or JPG, and you can revoke them or let them expire.
How do I create a private community?
Create a community group, set it to private, add channels and invite members. Courses can be tied to private channels so only those members see them.
Can I charge for community access?
Yes. Paid groups support one-time payments and recurring subscriptions for public or private communities.
Can a workflow run when someone finishes a course?
Yes. Course triggers include Lesson Completed, Category Completed, Product Completed, Offer Access Granted and Product Access Granted, so you can send certificates, upsells or reviews automatically.
How do I enrol people automatically after they pay?
Offer checkouts grant access on payment. For other sales (an invoice or a funnel), use a workflow: Payment Received → Course Grant Offer.
Can I import students from another membership platform?
Yes. Import contacts by CSV and grant the offer with a workflow. HighLevel also has a Kajabi importer for courses and a Skool importer for community members and posts.
Can I move my Skool community to GoHighLevel?
Partly automatically. The Skool importer brings members and posts into a HighLevel community group; courses are rebuilt by uploading your exported content and setting access again.
Is GoHighLevel a replacement for Kajabi?
For businesses that also need a CRM, texting, booking and funnels, often yes: everything sits in one account. Creators whose whole business is courses often prefer a course-first platform. See the comparison on this page.
How do students log in?
Through the Client Portal, with their email. Magic links sign people in quickly but don’t grant access by themselves; the student still needs the offer.
What is the branded Client Portal app?
An add-on that puts your courses and communities in a mobile app under your brand, at $49 a month per sub-account.
Can I run separate communities for different client groups?
Yes. Create separate community groups, each with its own channels, members, courses and access rules.
How do I handle people joining a cohort late?
Use time-based unlocks: they count from each member’s join date, so late joiners get the same pacing from their own start.
Can I add live calls to a community?
Yes. Communities support events and Go Live meetings or broadcasts, with reminders.
Can I sell courses on a marketplace?
Yes. Courses can be listed on GoKollab, HighLevel’s course marketplace, with separate pricing from your own site.
